Fall Enneagram Nature Journaling
A 9 Week Journey into the Essence and Wholeness of the Enneagram in the Heart of Nature.
Our Gathering Place for Enneagram Reflection and Renewal
Step into the tranquility of the mountains during autumn and discover the Enneagram like never before. This 9-week series invites you to explore the facets of your inner world through the timeless practice of nature journaling, a beautiful tool that blends observation, creativity, and reflection.
Each week, as we hike to a stunning overlook off the Blue Ridge Parkway in East Asheville, you’ll engage with the essence of an Enneagram archetype through poetry, guided meditation, and journaling. As the leaves turn from green to gold and finally rest upon the forest floor, you’ll journey around the Enneagram circle.
Inspired by the timeless tradition of nature journaling, this series offers a unique opportunity to experience the Enneagram as a living model of wholeness, deeply rooted in the rhythms and wisdom of the natural world.
We’ll explore the universal archetypes within each Enneagram type, uncovering their presence in the elements of nature. This practice deepens our understanding of each type and invigorates our connection to the living world around us.
Your nature journal will become a living record of both your inner Enneagram journey and your relationship with the natural world.
What is Nature Journaling?
Program Features
Schedule & Setting
This 9-week series begins in the second week of September, perfectly timed for the autumn transformation. You can choose from two group options:
Saturdays at 9:30 AM (only 1 spot remaining)
Each session lasts 90 minutes, providing time for a gentle hike, guided nature journaling, and connecting with the essence of the Enneagram.
-
We’ll take a peaceful 15 minute hike through the forest, just 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, near the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The well-maintained trail includes some slopes, accessible even for my children and 74-year-old mother.
At the top, we’ll gather on a spacious, gently sloping rock with a stunning southwest-facing view over Haw Creek "Happy Valley" and the distant mountain ranges.
This serene spot is perfect for meditation and journaling, with plenty of room to spread out and reflect.
This series is limited to 6-9 women for an intimate, immersive experience.
*Once registration is full, we’ll vote on the meeting day and time. Payment is due only after confirming a schedule that works for everyone.
-
Each week will focus on a specific Enneagram type, drawing parallels between the type’s essence and elements in nature.
For example, the integrity of Type 1 might be explored in the strength and stability of a pine tree, deeply rooted yet reaching high.
Participants will explore how the traits and essence of each type are reflected in the natural world, providing a tangible way to connect with these archetypal energies.

Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate valid for 18 hours or points toward your IEA professional accreditation.
The Experience
Each session begins with a somatic centering exercise and a poem that connects us with the week’s Enneagram type before our walk to the overlook.
-
When we arrive at the overlook, I’ll guide you through a longer somatic meditation, deepening your connection to the week’s Enneagram type and its essence.
After the meditation, I’ll offer a brief inspirational presentation that delves into the core qualities and essence of the Enneagram type of the week.
This combination of meditation and presentation creates a rich foundation for the journaling prompts that follow, helping you engage more fully with both the type and the natural world around you.
-
In each session, we'll dive into the practice of nature journaling, where you’ll document your experiences with the natural world in whatever form speaks to you—whether that’s writing, sketching, or painting.
*This isn’t about creating perfect art; it’s about capturing your personal reflections and the connections you make with the environment around you.
We’ll weave in Enneagram themes by exploring how each type’s essence shows up in nature. I’ll provide a prompt to guide your journaling, encouraging you to reflect on how the qualities of the week’s Enneagram type are mirrored in the landscape.
Through this process, your nature journal becomes a living record of both your inner Enneagram journey and your relationship with the natural world.
Participants
All levels are welcome! This series offers a nourishing introduction for beginners and a deepening of practice for those more advanced.
-
What makes this program special is our focus on the essence and natural elements of the Enneagram types.
I will provide a foundation in the Enneagram of Personality through our sessions and with thorough digital handouts. However, the heart of our journey will be dedicated to exploring the ‘felt sense’ of each type’s essence as it is reflected in the natural world.
By connecting with these universal elements in nature, you’ll experience the Enneagram in a deeply nourishing and embodied way.
-
No artistic or writing experience is required to join this series.
As someone who is not an artist (despite my mother being a renowned one) or a writer (despite having published a book 😉), I assure you that this is a safe and welcoming space for anyone who might feel insecure about art or creative expression.
Your journey here is about connecting with nature and the Enneagram, not about artistic skill.
Hi, I’m Tammy
Nature has always been a guiding force in my life. I discovered the practice of nature journaling through homeschooling with my kids. This practice became a way for us to explore the rhythms and lessons nature offers, helping us stay grounded and present in our daily lives.
My Enneagram journey began in childhood, introduced by my mother, Lissa Friedman, PhD, who taught with Oscar Ichazo's Arica School in the 80s and 90s. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion, leading me to study under renowned teachers like A. H. Almaas, Sandra Maitri, and Helen Palmer.
Over decades of study and practice, I’ve woven together my love for the Enneagram and my deep connection to nature, creating a unique approach that blends these two powerful tools for self-discovery.
In my work as a psychotherapist for over 20 years, I’ve integrated the Enneagram with modern somatic psychology, neuroscience, and nature-based practices. This integration is the foundation of "Essence Embodiment," a modality I developed to help individuals connect with their wholeness and natural essence through the wisdom of the Enneagram, somatic practices and the grounding presence of nature.
"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."
— John Muir
